On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law. Lydia V. Swanson, a native of Nebraska, earned a B.S. (1923) from the University of Nebraska and an M.S. (1931) from Iowa State College (University). She was an instructor in the Dept. of Household Administration, and was then named Professor and Chair of Childhood Development Department (1936-1943).
